It contains information about physical and cultural features located within the United States, associated areas and Antarctica. In this dataset, point features for all public and private schools within the state of West Virginia were updated, adding new features and designating closed features as \"historical\". These updated point features were collected utilizing information from the following data sources: the West Virginia Department of Education [WVDE] and their proprietary online Education Directory, The West Virginia National Guard, West Virginia County Boards of Education, West Virginia Christian Education Association, West Virginia Division of Juvenile Services, and listings found via internet search engines. The WVDE provided a tabular listing of open and recently closed schools via Randall Kirk, West Virginia Education Information System Office, which was used in conjunction with the WVDE Online Education Directory [http://wvde.state.wv.us/ed_directory/] to produce a comprehensive and up-to-date inventory of known schools within West Virginia. GPS coordinates collected in 2004 by the National Guard as a part of the Counter Drug Task Force for most elementary schools in West Virginia were used in conjunction with the WVDE data. Incomplete or unclear data were supplemented with information from individual County Boards of Education, the West Virginia Christian Education Association, and West Virginia Division of Juvenile Services. Google Street View, Google Maps, Microsoft Bing Pictometry Oblique Imagery, telephone interviews and local knowledge were used as validation sources for school locations. The SAMB 2003 (2 foot spatial-resolution, natural color) and the NAIP 2009 (1 meter spatial-resolution natural color) orthophotography were used as base layers to aid in accurately locating features and identifying relative coordinates. Many of the updated features acquired through the WVDE were located using the WV Statewide Addressing and Mapping Geocoding service.Complete listing of 803 PK - 12 grade schools in West Virginia. There are approximately 74 Private Schools and 729 Public Schools.The West Virginia GIS Technical Center used data in conjunction with the West Virginia Department of Education and the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management to update the statewide schools dataset. The GIS file was created and published by the WVGISTC in July of 2015 and is available via an online web application ( West Virginia School PreK-12 ).Supplemental InformationContact Information: Randall Kirk, Programmer/Analyst, West Virginia Department of Education (WV DE), WV Education Information System (WVEIS), Bldg 6 Rm 346, 1900 Kanawha Boulevard East, Charleston, WV 25305, Phone: 558-3927 x468, Fax: 558-2584, E-mail: rnkirk@access.k12.wv.us", "summary": "The purpose of this project was to update and make additions to the current educational facility listings within the Geographic Names Information System [GNIS]...", "title": "GTI_PUB_UTM.DBO.Schools_PreK_12th", "tags": [ "South Parkersburg Quadrangle", "Mason County", "Montgomery Quadrangle", "boundaries", "Julian Quadrangle", "Newton Quadrangle", "cultural", "Burlington Quadrangle", "Fairmont West Quadrangle", "public vocational/technical", "Hamlin Quadrangle", "Parkersburg Quadrangle", "Putnam County", "public high school", "Gilbert Quadrangle", "public middle/high school", "Weston Quadrangle", "Kanawha County", "Buckhannon Quadrangle", "Taylor County", "Hancock County", "Weirton Quadrangle", "Ivydale Quadrangle", "Martinsburg Quadrangle", "Smithburg Quadrangle", "Charleston East Quadrangle", "Branchland Quadrangle", "Gallipolis Quadrangle", "Center Point Quadrangle", "Bradshaw Quadrangle", "GNIS", "society", "Wirt County", "Wyoming County", "Tucker County", "Elizabeth Quadrangle", "Gauley Bridge Quadrangle", "Barbour County", "Williamsburg Quadrangle", "Madison Quadrangle", "Inwood Quadrangle", "Welch Quadrangle", "Augusta Quadrangle", "Grant Town Quadrangle", "Hedgesville Quadrangle", "WV", "Saint Albans Quadrangle", "Morgantown North Quadrangle", "Danese Quadrangle", "Griffithsville Quadrangle", "Matheny Quadrangle", "McDowell County", "Catlettsburg Quadrangle", "Greenbrier County", "historical school", "Belle Quadrangle", "Grafton Quadrangle", "Charleston West Quadrangle", "War Quadrangle", "Davis Quadrangle", "Rivesville Quadrangle", "Doddridge County", "Wheeling Quadrangle", "Jefferson County", "Preston County", "US", "public Pre-K school", "Lincoln County", "Cabell County", "private school", "Barboursville Quadrangle", "public middle school", "Osage Quadrangle", "Pocatalico Quadrangle", "Marion County", "Iaeger Quadrangle", "new school", "Romney Quadrangle", "Clarksburg Quadrangle", "United States", "Asbury Quadrangle", "Logan County", "structure", "Berkeley County", "Gary Quadrangle", "Raleigh County", "Petersburg West Quadrangle", "location", "Clay County", "Williamson Quadrangle", "Wayne County", "Scott Depot Quadrangle", "Petersburg East Quadrangle", "Charles Town Quadrangle", "Morgantown South Quadrangle", "Parsons Quadrangle", "Lewis County", "Alum Creek Quadrangle", "Grant County", "East Liverpool South Quadrangle", "Ohio County", "Upshur County", "Marshall County", "Middleway Quadrangle", "Alvon Quadrangle", "Beckley Quadrangle", "Mingo County", "public elementary school", "Nestorville Quadrangle", "Fayette County", "Wood County", "Blacksville Quadrangle", "Bluefield Quadrangle", "Clendenin Quadrangle", "Kingwood Quadrangle", "Mineral County", "Pomeroy Quadrangle", "Monongalia County", "Moundsville Quadrangle", "Elkins Quadrangle", "Huntington Quadrangle", "Lewisburg Quadrangle", "Henlawson Quadrangle", "Cedar Grove Quadrangle", "Mullens Quadrangle", "Athens Quadrangle", "Oak Hill Quadrangle", "Boone County", "Hampshire County", "Harrison County", "Bethany Quadrangle", "Salem Quadrangle", "college/university", "Fayetteville Quadrangle", "Randolph County", "Brooke County", "Fairmont East Quadrangle", "Lester Quadrangle", "Mercer County", "education", "West Virginia", "Chester Quadrangle", "public school", "Roane County", "public elementary/middle school", "schools", "Big Creek Quadrangle", "Rosemont Quadrangle", "Ranger Quadrangle" ], "type": "", "typeKeywords": [], "thumbnail": "", "url": "", "minScale": 0, "maxScale": 0, "spatialReference": "", "accessInformation": "", "licenseInfo": "Acknowledgement of the USGS, GNIS and WVGISTC in products derived from these data." }
