This project tasked the WVGISTC with updates and validation of geographic names for cultural features with prior or current use as an educational facility. Both private and public schools that were not a part of the current database or whose status has changed since last update were included in this new dataset. This project supports an ongoing activity for the state of West Virginia by updating the GNIS with certain cultural features complementary to the existing Homeland Security Infrastructure Program
