Description: Data current as of July 2025; Data published October 2025This data item is maintained through the West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) Linear Referencing Systems (LRS) Service Unit within the Information Technology Division.The National Highway System (NHS) routes are managed with the Linear Referencing System (LRS) route network as an "event" or attribute layer. Changes to the NHS classification of a route are performed in conjunction with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Where applicable, proposed changes are also coordinated through municipalities and/or Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs). As of 2025, approved changes to the NHS network are communicated to all WVDOT employees through an agency-wide memorandum.
