Description: Data current as of July 2025; Data published October 2025This data item is maintained through the West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) Linear Referencing Systems (LRS) Service Unit within the Information Technology Division. The National Highway System (NHS) routes are managed with the Linear Referencing System (LRS) route network as an "event" or attribute layer. Changes to the NHS classification of a route are performed in conjunction with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Where applicable, proposed changes are also coordinated through municipalities and/or Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs). As of 2025, approved changes to the NHS network are communicated to all WVDOT employees through an agency-wide memorandum. For more details on the National Highway System, see: https://www.fhwa.dot.gov/planning/national_highway_system/

Description: Data current as of July 2025; Data published October 2025This data item is maintained through the West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) Linear Referencing Systems (LRS) Service Unit within the Information Technology Division. The State Functional Classification dataset is managed within the Linear Referencing System (LRS) route network as an "event" or attribute layer. This dataset is used in various aspects of project programming, planning, and reporting. Unlike the Federal Functional Classification, which is applied across all states, the State Functional Classification is specific to the state highway system of West Virginia. Districts provide periodic updates to this dataset.

Description: Data current as of July 2025; Data published October 2025This data item is maintained through the West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) Linear Referencing Systems (LRS) Service Unit within the Information Technology Division. This dataset is a subset of all dominant routes from the ALL_ROUTES dataset. All routes are assigned route dominance. If multiple routes share the same underlying geometry (centerline), route dominance rules are applied. Where concurrent routes exist, route dominance is generally assigned to the route that meets the following criteria: lowest sign system number followed by lowest route number followed by highest supplemental code. There are some exceptions where the dominant route does not follow the dominance rules. The general rule for route dominancy is: among all concurrent routes, the route with the lowest sign system code dominates. If more than one route shares the same lowest sign system code the one with the smallest route number dominates. Measures embedded in routes are derived by linear interpolation based on calibration point data collected by using a Distance Measuring Instrument (DMI) except for ramps which use the geometry length to derive measures.Data is sorted by sign system ( 0 = Municipal Non-State Route, 1 = Interstates, 2 = US Route, 3 = State Route, 04 = County Route, 06 = State Park And Forest Route, 7 = Federal Aid Non State Route (FANS), 08 = HARP Route), County Number, and District. This dataset includes all State Maintained Routes including all Interstate, State, US, and County Highways within West Virginia. This dataset does not contain any local and other routes on it. Information provided in this dataset includes RouteID, Beginning and Ending Milepoint, The Route Number Label, Street Name, Sub Routes, Sign System, Route Number, County Code.
